Gauri Shankar Temple
Pay a visit to the revered Gauri Shankar temple, one of the oldest temples in India. Located in Nagar village in Manali, this temple is devoted to Lord Shiva. As per the legend, this temple is the last monument of the Gurjara Pratihara traditions and is a protected monument.
The temple is built in Shikhara architecture and has a dome shape at the top but the bottom part of the temple is square. This temple is renowned for its stone carvings. Gauri Shankar temple has the idols of Shankar & Gauri placed on a pedestal, seated over Nandi along with sons Kartik and Ganesha, and seated under a sliver canopy clad with gold jewelry.
One can witness the Garbagriha of the temple beautifully decorated with pretty carvings of lord Ganesh, people playing musical instruments, and dancing statues. This beautiful temple overlooks the Beas river and the gorgeous lush green scenery surrounding the temple is truly a treat for the eyes. Trek lovers can trek to Gauri Shankar temple from Manali. The perfect time to visit this temple is between March to June and October and February when the weather is salubrious. Visit this temple for religious purposes but yes also for its serene atmosphere.
