Prashar lake or Parashar lake is located almost 50kms north of Mandi in the state of Himachal Pradesh, amidst the Dhauladhar ranges of Kullu, at an elevation of 2730m above sea level. Apart from its tranquil setting, this blue Prashar Lake is renowned for its three-storied temple, located on the bank of the lake. This temple is devoted to the sage Parashara and was built in the 13th century in Pagoda style by Bansen the king of Mandi.

There is a strong belief that the sage Parashara meditated here for quite a long time. The mythological story related to this lake is that it was formed by the Pandavas while returning from the Mahabharata war with Lord Kamrunag found the neighboring areas so peaceful and serene that he decided to stay here forever and on his request, Bheemformed the lake by pushing his elbow and forearm on the peak of the mountain and thus it is strongly believed by the local that the depth of the oval-shaped lake is unknown.

People from all faiths come here and as an offering throw money, silver coins, and gold into the water. Prashar lake remains frozen in winter but dazzles throughout the remaining year. This is indeed one of the most offbeat places in the state of Himachal Pradesh. It is a perfect place for trekking and camping. Just trek to the nearby village areas and get an insight into the Himachal culture. Capture the breathtaking views of the Kinnaur, PirPanjal, and Dhauladhar mountain ranges.

Just set your camps here and spend some peaceful time here and admire the pristine lake that is surrounded by pretty valleys, beautiful flowers, and lush greenery.

The perfect time to visit these natural splendors is from April to May when the weather is quite pleasant and the surrounding becomes surreal. One can even visit in the winter season which starts in December and ends in March. This place almost freezes and gets covered under the thick blanket of snow. One may witness snow from the last week of December till mid-March.
